My Personal Style

Great headshots are a mix of the photographer’s technical expertise, the photographer’s style, and their ability to help the subject feel comfortable. The key element to capturing a great moment that will translate into a great headshot is the space to be creative and expressive. My style is about having fun, exploring possibilities, and finding what feels and looks right in that moment.

Headshot photography is a collaboration between photographer and subject. Before our photography session begins, I will meet with you as a potential client, to listen, evaluate, and discuss your objectives and the looks you want to cultivate. I will offer input to help you capture a winning look that reveals your potential.

Shoot Preparation

Items to bring the day of the shoot:

  • A few favorite CD’s and/or iPOD.
  • Clothing – Bring solid colored clothing - No Whites, baggy or oversized clothing. Long sleeve shirts are best, sweaters, button down, with or without a collar. T-Shirts without lettering or logos are also fine. Bring several bottoms to choose from, again, solid colors. Women should bring a few skirts/dresses and a few pairs of pants. Men should bring a few pairs of pants – No shorts. Be sure to get these items pressed before the shoot.
  • Old headshots, photos of yourself that you like and/or dislike.
  • Examples of headshots that you like from magazines, friends, online, etc.
  • If you are doing your own make-up and hair, bring make-up, hair products, brushes, etc. with you.

Bio

Dan began his photography career in 1995 as a freelance photojournalist, covering news and events in Southern California for the Associated Press.

Having been born and raised in Los Angeles, his familiarity with the greater Los Angeles area greatly contributed to his early success as a photojournalist. In just a few years, Dan's work expanded into public relations and portraiture, shooting for private clients such as Adidas, General Motors, Focus Features, Concord Records, Warner Music Group, Musician Ray Charles, and U.S. Congressman Harold Ford Jr., to name a few.

Dan’s photos have appeared on the covers and in the pages of InStyle, W, Cosmopolitan, British Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar, British Cosmopolitan, German Glamour, Conde Naste Japan, Vegas, Ocean Drive, People, DownBeat, Newsweek, and Forbes, among others.

Dan has been shooting actor and professional headshots for nearly five years. His background in photojournalism helped hone his straightforward personal style and his eye for capturing a compelling image and the decisive moment - key elements for a successful headshot.
